Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – The 38th Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), a cornerstone of Ibero-American publishing and one of the most significant cultural events in the Spanish-speaking world, will take over Expo Guadalajara from November 30 to December 8, 2024.

Known for its vast scale and diversity, FIL remains the largest book fair in the Americas and ranks second globally, only behind Frankfurt’s. This year’s event is set to draw book lovers, industry professionals, and renowned authors from around the globe, including Tanzanian-British novelist and academic, Nobel Laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah.

With over 43,000 square meters of exhibition space, FIL will host an array of immersive literary and cultural experiences, designed for both the public and publishing professionals. The program includes nearly 3,000 events, from panel discussions and workshops to music, cinema, and theater performances—celebrating this year’s Guest of Honor, Spain. Attendees can explore diverse sections such as the Comic Book Zone, a Children’s Corner, an Electronic Book Area, and spaces dedicated to Braille and inclusive books, ensuring accessibility for all.

More than 850 authors from 43 countries will gather to share their insights and engage directly with fans through readings, book signings, and discussions. The event will highlight literary talent with awards, including the prestigious Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz award, which this year honors Argentine writer Gabriela Cabezon Camera, and the FIL Prize for Literature in Romance Languages, awarded to Portuguese author Mia Couto.

FIL’s legacy began 38 years ago, created by the University of Guadalajara with a vision to bring together readers, writers, and publishers in a space that fosters creativity and global cultural exchange. Last year’s fair welcomed over 2,400 exhibitors from 61 countries and nearly 17,500 international professionals, illustrating the event’s broad appeal. Organizers anticipate an impressive turnout this year, with over 800,000 expected attendees from around the world.

For nine days, the city of Guadalajara will pulse with energy as people line up to hear from their favorite authors, immerse themselves in Spain’s rich cultural heritage, and explore a program that celebrates the written word in all its forms. This unique event promises something for everyone, from literary aficionados to families seeking cultural experiences, making it an unmissable highlight in the global literary calendar.
