According to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System of the Federal Government, Jalisco’s crime rates have seen a substantial decline in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period of 2018. Overall crime rates dropped 23%, with a 62.5% reduction in “special monitoring crimes” – a category that encompasses theft and robbery. Homicides also decreased by 33%.
Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez credits his administration’s strategies for this success. He pointed out that Jalisco now boasts a crime rate lower than the national average. He specifically noted a 64.6% decrease in special monitoring crimes compared to the national average of 39.4%.
Specific Crime Reductions:
Private vehicle theft: -62.3% (first half of 2024 vs. 2018)
Thefts from commercial trucks: -78.2% (compared to first half of 2018)
Personal robberies: -53.5% (compared to first half of 2018)
Business robberies: -76.4% (compared to first half of 2018)
Home robberies: -71.8% (compared to first half of 2018)
Bank robberies: -75.0% (compared to first half of 2018)
Account holder theft: -81.4% (first half of 2024 vs. 2018)
Thefts from commercial trucks: -78.2% (compared to first half of 2018)
Personal robberies: -53.5% (compared to first half of 2018)
Business robberies: -76.4% (compared to first half of 2018)
Home robberies: -71.8% (compared to first half of 2018)
Bank robberies: -75.0% (compared to first half of 2018)
Account holder theft: -81.4% (first half of 2024 vs. 2018)
Homicides and Femicides:
The number of intentional homicide victims also saw a significant decrease of 33 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to 2018. Jalisco’s intentional homicide rate currently falls below the national average.
Femicides, though still a concern, have shown improvement. There were zero femicides in June 2024 compared to June 2018, resulting in a 100% decrease for that month. The overall reduction in femicides for the first half of 2024 compared to 2018 is 55.2%.
