Driving an RV in Guanajuato produced one of those Mexico road stories we have never forgotten. A wrong turn sent our 28-foot Class C motorhome into the city’s underground streets, where a narrow tunnel collected a souvenir from the side of our rig: the awning.
We were staying at an RV park outside Guanajuato and decided to drive into the city. This was back in the days of paper maps. There was no friendly voice from a phone warning us that we had missed a turn or offering to recalculate the route.
Through happenstance—and probably one unfortunate turn—we found ourselves travelling down a one-way road leading directly into one of Guanajuato’s tunnels.
There was no retorno and nowhere to turn around. Once we entered, we were committed.
