Whether you visit lovely coastal Jaltemba Bay for a week, the season, or make it your home, having pharmacy options is convenient. A regional chain pharmacy, Farmacia PVR, originating in Puerto Vallarta, opened two branches: one on main street La Penita (first photo) and on main street Los Ayala directly opposite the Clinica San Miguel Arcangel.
With more than 32 years of experience in the trade of pharmaceutical products and the first to offer free home delivery, PVR now has more than 60 branch locations.
The stores carry brand names and generic versions in order to provide the best price available. Because it is a group enterprize and buys in volume, there is a bigger range of medicines. If the local store doesn’t have what you need, they can get it from the home office within one day.
In addition, they offer weekly promotions that save the customer money. There are four ways to order medicine: walk in between 8am-8 pm every day; online- email lapenita@farmaciapvr.com; social media, or whatsapp 322 197 4132.
All Farmacia PVR branches accept cash, debit and credit card payments.
General manager Hector Lopez comments “Our success is based on our commitment to total customer satisfaction and providing top quality products.” Farmacia PVR started as a niche store that focused on tourist needs and all of the branches are in Mexican tourist locations. Due to this focus, the stores carry a huge selection of sun blocks, bandages, stomach upset medicines as well as common perscriptions for chronic conditions such as diabetes.

The La Penita manager, Rubia Ruiz, enjoys interacting with customers. “It gives me satisfaction when I can guide them to the proper medicine. I don’t speak English but with Google translate, I can understand the foreign visitors.”
Rubi has become knowlegeable concerning the uses of the various medicine and can contact the home office pharmacist to clarify for the customer. The author recently needed several less common medicines that other drug stores on the avenida did not carry and Rubi was able to get them from PV in a matter of hours.
While Farmacia PVR states on their company website “PVR strives to contribute to the well-being of people, offering reliable and highest quality health products. Our mission is taking care of the health of our clients, offering them a friendly and professional service…” each store is only as good as it’s employees.
Unscrupulous clerks- especially without a supervisor on site- can abuse the customer. There are many negative reviews for other branches in Baja, all indicating that there was a dishonest clerk overcharging. It is wise to double check your receipt before leaving any store to avoid problems later.
My personal transactions with both locations of Farmacia PVR were very professional and satisfying.Whether you are needing routine healthcare products or perscriptions, Farmacia PVR is a great option. The local branches have good prices, a wide selection and modern service.
