This week’s highway roundup brings together Baja road repairs, a partial reopening near Mulegé, national maintenance news and encouraging northbound reports from the Highway 15D corridor.

Published October 3, 2026. These are dated news reports and travellers’ accounts, not a live clearance of every road. A closure reported earlier in the week should not be assumed to remain in effect.

Highway 15D: northbound reports from Nayarit to Nogales

A couple of reports shared on Facebook indicate no problems on journeys north from Nayarit to Nogales along the Highway 15D corridor. These are encouraging accounts from fellow travellers, reflecting conditions when they drove through. We have not independently verified those journeys or their exact travel dates.

If you have recently travelled this route, please share your travel date, direction and any roadworks or delays. Reports of trouble-free journeys are welcome too.

Baja California: repairs on the free Tijuana–Rosarito road

Repairs to a sinkhole near Cuesta Blanca have caused traffic disruption on the free road between Tijuana and Rosarito. A September 30 report described a diversion of approximately 100 metres beginning October 1, using part of the opposite carriageway to maintain two lanes in each direction. Completion was estimated for late December.

This report concerns the free road, not a reported closure of Highway 1D. Allow extra time if your journey uses the affected section. Read the September 30 repair report.

Baja California Sur: partial reopening near Palo Verde

Reports on September 29 and 30 described an interruption to the Transpeninsular Highway following rain and runoff near Palo Verde, in the municipality of Mulegé. Traffic was subsequently restored through one lane; the September 30 report placed the affected section at kilometre 157.

We have not verified a later report confirming full reopening. Travellers approaching the area should check for a fresh local update. Read the September 30 reopening report.

National maintenance: MegaBachetón update

On September 28, the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes reported that its MegaBachetón programme had attended to more than 74,000 kilometres of roads. That is a programme-wide figure; it does not mean every stretch has been repaired or is free of potholes. See the SICT press archive and September 28 announcement.

Central Mexico: check the date on closure reports

A September 27 morning bulletin reported an accident-related closure on the México–Querétaro highway at kilometre 121, heading toward Querétaro. The same bulletin also listed reopenings elsewhere, including on the Tehuacán–Oaxaca highway.

These were incident reports for that date, not evidence of continuing closures today. Before forwarding a warning, check both its timestamp and whether a reopening notice followed. Read the September 27 bulletin.

Oaxaca: serious collision on the Ocotlán bypass

An October 2 report described a fatal collision on the Ocotlán bypass near San Martín Tilcajete, with police managing traffic at the scene. The report does not establish an ongoing closure. We include it as highway news, rather than a recommendation to avoid the route today. Read the October 2 report.

Help keep fellow travellers informed

Have you recently driven Baja, Highway 15/15D or another route in Mexico? Please share a first-hand report with your travel date, direction, nearby towns or kilometre markers, and details of roadworks, delays or damaged pavement. Tell us about the good stretches too.

A specific, dated report is much more useful than a general statement that everything is clear—or that an entire state should be avoided.
