Enrique Alfaro Announces Creation of Jalisco Health Insurance

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – On Tuesday, Jalisco State Governor, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, alongside health officials, unveiled plans for the Jalisco Health Insurance, following the shortcomings of the National Institute of Health and Wellbeing (INSABI).

This initiative aims to provide medical coverage to over 2.3 million uninsured individuals through credentialing and a new medical record system. Within 15 days, the first phase will roll out, with one million credentials slated for distribution to eligible individuals aged 20 to 65 by June.

“We’re gearing up to launch Jalisco Health Insurance in 15 days. Despite the electoral period, we’ll engage with the media to explain the insurance’s scope,” stated Alfaro.

Joined by Health Secretary Fernando Petersen Aranguren, Alfaro emphasized that the credential would grant access to Jalisco’s healthcare facilities, where medical records will be on file and treatment will be available.

The Jalisco government aims to fill the void left by the defunct Seguro Popular, enhancing and broadening its coverage. “People will have insurance that serves them and takes care of them,” Alfaro affirmed.

Children of the newly credentialed population will also be covered under the program.

Following a health cabinet meeting, Alfaro highlighted the initiative’s significance, citing investments in hospital infrastructure, healthcare centers, and medication supply as crucial steps in bolstering the local health system.

As of today, there are 845,248 clinical records registered in the Jalisco Health Registry System, reflecting the state’s ongoing commitment to healthcare accessibility and quality.
