  • Rincón de Guayabitos, Nayarit: A Beach Town for Everyone Under the Sun

Rincón de Guayabitos, on the Riviera Nayarit, is a small resort town that captures the essence of Mexican beach living. It is only 1,524 km (957 miles) from the Nogales border, a hard 2-day drive down the Pacific Coast.

We found a stunning beach and a lively community of snowbirds, expats and locals, with a laid-back coastal lifestyle. There are events through the year, including a fashion show, parades and street parties.

Puerto Vallarta and its airport are only 1 to 1½ hours away. You will find a variety of motels, hotels and monthly rentals, and restaurants that run from authentic Mexican to Italian, sushi and teriyaki, with seafood specialties, BBQ, upscale or beach bar.

It is a place for everyone under the sun. Have you driven to Guayabitos? Tell us what you liked best in the comments.

La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit: A Magical Town on the Riviera Nayarit

La Peñita de Jaltemba is a small coastal town on the Riviera Nayarit, and it’s the best of small, authentic Mexico. It’s about an hour’s drive, 75 km (48 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta.

It’s the service hub for the tourist towns of Los Ayala and Rincón de Guayabitos, with a bank, hardware stores, grocery stores, vegetable markets, a library and a post office.

La Avenida is the tree-lined main street that runs from the highway to the ocean. It’s filled with restaurants, small grocery stores and specialty shops, and it’s pure Mexican. Parades and celebrations begin on this avenue.

Every Thursday morning the central tianguis, a travelling market, sets up. You’ll find everything from vegetables to makeup, stove parts to jewelry, plastic ware to handcrafted treasures. Don’t miss it.

And eat at Hinde and Jaime’s Restaurant for the best margarita in Mexico!
