Semana Santa in Jaltemba Bay Nayarit

Semana Santa in Jaltemba Bay Nayarit

Holy Week

Los Ayala from a boat. The crowds are overwhelming

The annual mass exodus from Mexico’s major cities began this week as families look to escape the urban smog for sun, sand and surf. What awaited them at the beach wasn’t all peace and quiet.

On the beach at Rincon de Guayabitos.

As usual, pleasure spots such as Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Acapulco and Cancun were overrun with thousands of exuberant Mexicans intent on having a good time. Notably, the percentage of foreign visitors at Mexico’s beach resorts drops to its lowest level of the year during Semana Santa.

Lots of people and shade shelters

Here in La Penita and Rincon Guayabitos, the crowds are mystifying as these sleeping little villages grow to the point of bursting…tent and tarp cities sprout up n the beaches, hotel and bungalow rooms meant to hold four comfortably are packed with families of ten or more.

Camping in La Penita RV Park.. Not and inch of ground uncovered.

RV Parks like the ever popular La Penita RV Resort are packed to overflowing as the Mexican vacationers virtually turn a 150 spot rv park into a small town of 1500.  Needless to say. its a party and shy tourists may feel uncomfortable if they are willing to join in the fiesta.
