April Fools and Oreo Cookies

Throughout their childhood, our kids have had to endure parents like us.

Usually, when we lived in Canada, we would wake them and tell them that it was snowing – that they couldn’t go to school – that it was a snow day.

They were so excited they would jump up from bed running to the front room window. Looking out they saw there was no snow.  “April fools” we shouted.

It was our standard “it’s snowing” kind of April fools every year.  We said  “it’s snowing” every year and they fell for it every year.

But now we were in Mexico, so we had to devise a new plan. What we did was very devious. We call it our Oreo plan.

We purchased some Oreo cookies and proceeded to open them up.  We then scraped out the icing and replaced it with a blob of white toothpaste. We closed the cookies up and placed them on a dish on the counter.

When the kids got up they asked what is with the plate of cookies?

“We are having a meeting with Miguel,” said dad. “He’s coming over for coffee in about an hour. Leave the cookies alone.”

We then went upstairs and waited.

It took less than 10 minutes before we heard groans and “oh what did you do”

Of course they tasted the cookies.

April Fools!
