Getting Adam to Pip’s Funeral
Our family was in Palenque, enjoying the ruins and the small town with the same name when Adam got the email.
“My grandpa Pip has died. Ian is going to send me tickets to get to Montreal.”
Now we were not sure how close Adam was with his grandfather, but this was no time to ask. We would have to help as much as we could.
Pip was a character and solid soul. He and my then mother-in-law Ducky, were great to me and I wanted to ensure Adam was there to honor those good people.
Bill and I packed up and started driving North. The next big city that a flight could be arranged was Puebla. If not Puebla, then Mexico City.
We drove and drove for two days. Nearing Puebla Adam received the news that the tickets (to be purchased on points) could not be arranged that quickly. Perhaps in a few days.
We messaged that Ian should try for Monterrey – another big city. Our thought was that if necessary, we would get Adam to Loredo Texas in the US. Surely there would be flights from there.
When we approached Monterrey Adam received the email. Tickets were not going to be forthcoming. Apparently, Nancy didn’t want Adam there. We had driven over 4 days – 2000 kilometers – by this time to ensure Adam could be with his other family.
We didn’t know what to do. We made light of it and started driving south again.
